25/11/2022: A group of women in Zahedan march towards Makki Mosque in protest. They chant, 'Death to the Dictator'. Some are seen with their children. This is the first recorded instance of women in Sistan and Baluchestan protesting.
Zahedan is a city the province of Sistan and Baluchestan. It is home to Baluchi people, who are majority Sunni Muslim, a religious minority. This province has been historically one of the most deprived and repressed areas in Iran.
During the 2022 protests, Zahedan has recorded one of the highest death counts, as well as arrests. Although Baluch men have been very present in the uprising, women had not had a prominent role until this protest.
