Baluchi women take to the streets again

16/12/2022: Baluchi women, some in traditional dress, are seen leading their own protests in Zahedan. They shout, "death to the dictator," "down with the child-killing regime," and "Basij, IRGC, you're our ISIS."

Zahedan is a city the province of Sistan and Baluchestan. It is home to Baluchi people, who are majority Sunni Muslim, a religious minority. This province has been historically one of the most deprived and repressed areas in Iran.

During the 2022 protests, Zahedan has recorded one of the highest death counts, as well as arrests. Although Baluchi men have been very present in the uprising, women had not had a prominent role until this protest.
